Prednisone Asthma

Prednisone and asthma go hand in hand. As it is one of the most common drugs to use for treatment. One of the key elements of prednisone is that can help lessen and treat severe asthma. Prednisone is a man made corticosteroid used for suppressing the immune system and inflammation. For those who suffer from asthma it is a wonder drug that can help suppress the inflammation of the airways. Most prescriptions of prednisone are commonly prescribed to children.

As with any drug there are moderate to severe side effects. For those who take prednisone and who are asthmatic some of these side effects vary. Some of the mild side effects that accrue when taking prednisone are vomiting, stomach irritation, headache, dizziness, insomnia, restlessness and increased hair growth. Some of the more severe side effects of prednisone for the treatment of asthma are depression, anxiety, easy bruising, skin rash, swollen limbs such as legs, ankles and or face, muscle weakness, and vision problems.

Of course taking prednisone for asthma does not mean that these side effects will happen over night. Each side effect varies and the symptoms happen over a period of time, depending on the dose and how long you stay on the drug. None the less of any of these side effects do happen speak with your doctor immediately. There are also positive effects of taking prednisone for asthma especially in children. In most cases children who suffer from acute asthma have had a positive result from the drug. They develop less whizzing, better breathing symptoms, lungs are less to swell up, and the drug seems not to have any major side effects in children who take prednisone for asthma. As with any drug consult your physician and see if prednisone is right for you when it comes to your asthma symptoms.

Always seek the advice of a professional for questions related to your disease, disease symptoms and treatments.
